Spotlight- Poem (Light, Camera, Action)

What are you playing at pretending you are alright,
holding on to a broken arrow that simply won't fly,
telling lies, putting on a smile to make it seem things are fine?

The make up cover the flaws, you are right.
Others fall for the fake smile but I stand!
I stand upright observing the cracks in your foundation.

You post uplifting status but your head is down,
You tweet like you are 'saved' but deep down you are lost.
You act like life is perfect but I see through you, secretly praying for the pain to go away.

These things make me want to ask who you really are.

Who are you behind the spotlight,
without the fitted clothes,
makeup, and heels that makes you tall?

Who are you without your virtual friends,
behind your close friends,
your family and everyone you can't live without?

Who are you when the music goes off,
when you get sober from the alcohol,
when the curtains are drawn, and when the light goes off?

Who are YOU behind the spotlight?

Ying Yang ( 2 sides of a love story)

YANG
You are the only rose in his garden,
The most beautiful one he's seen.
You stand out so bright,
Very pleasing to look at.
Many roses might spring forth,
But you will remain the fairest and brightest of them all.
He will water you with love and affection,
To make sure you don’t wither away.
YING
Time have passed,
The day, replaced by night.
The ‘you’ she fell in love with is no more,
That ‘you’ is dead and gone.
The beautiful flower that was watered has withered,
Your evil ways destabilised her heartbeat.
The spring of emotions has dried up,
Her heart no longer beats for you.

Rememberance Day Poem (Heroes)

“On the roads they walked lies their dead body.
For the peace they fought for, their blood was shed.
The pain and agony they went through,
The touchy sacrifice,
The loneliness,
The shame and the persistence of our heroes yielded us victory.
The words they spoke,
The fight they fought,
The peace they sought and the precious life they lived
Speaks for them,
Even when the agony of death had shut their mouth at the going down of the sun
In the morning we shall remember these ones
And pray for their souls,
For they are our heroes
Through which the liberty of mankind was established.”

No Condition is Permanent

The wildest storm will become still.
No matter how long and dark a tunnel is, there will always be light at  its end.
Heavy snow fall will melt away.
No matter how heavy the rainfall, the water will dry up.
The brightest day will give way to the night.
No matter how dark the night is, the bright morning is just around the  corner.
Ugly situations will become beautiful.
No matter how high a bird flies, its still coming to the ground.
No matter how long a war goes on, the survivors will see the end of it.
The highest Part of a mountain is its peak.
The longest river has an end.
Imaginations are limited.
The powerful can get powerless,
The borrower can become a lender,
A fool can acquire wisdom,
The poor can become rich,
Captives can become free,
The jailer can be imprisoned,
No matter how long you live, your life will surely come to an end.
The most beautiful rose will wither,
The colourful rainbow will disappear,
The glittery peacocks feather will fall and get carried away by the  wind.
Life is short, but it will out live you, take it for granted, it will  forsake you.
Love life, and you will live happily, Explore it and you will find its beauty.
If you are at the bottom, you still have a chance to get to the top.  If you are on top of the world, treat the people below you right even  when they have a wrong impression about you. Accept whatever life brings your way and handle it with care.
Against  all odds, show love and stand strong to survive the tests of life.
From  these tests, you will get testimonies that will prove to you that no  condition is permanent.

Kelvin's Kitchen (My Ayamase Stew)

Late last week I looked in my freezer and realised I had some green pepper that mustn't be wasted , so  I decided I was going to make ayamase (wife don't cook) stew.
You are probably thinking what a name right? Well, it comes from the 'spiciness' (very hot) of the stew, no tomatoes allowed!
The next step was to make a phone call to momma for a quick brief  that lasted only a few minutes. Little did I know it was going to take me five hours to make the magic happen in the kitchen.
Assorted meat is required for the ayamase stew, so I stopped at Birmingham indoor market to get some:

Cow leg (Bokoto)
Beef

Turkey Gizzard

Stripes (Saki)

Assorted Meat

(Mum will add crayfish, Cow skin [ponmo],  and other things but this isn't London so the latter are not easy to find around here)
Cow leg takes forever to soften up, so that was the first thing to go on the cooker.
Then the beef and gizzard, and lastly the stripes.
Boil them separately as some won't require as much time to cook as the rest.
I had to pour the stock water from the cow leg down the drain (too much fat, we are trying to eat healthy out here)
Keep the stock water from the stripes and beef as this will later go in the stew.
After boiling the meat to my satisfaction, I had to cut them to desired size (depends on the size of your mouth and maybe the strength of your teeth lol).

- With the assorted meat ready, blend the pepper
- Add palm oil to a hot pan, cut some onions and add it to the palm oil. Keep an eye on the onions and when they turn brown, take them out.
- Add fresh sliced onions to the hot palm oil
- Add the blended pepper and allow it to simmer.
- After about 5 minutes, add the assorted meat and the desired amount of stock water. -Allow the pan content to boil for a few minutes and taste the stew in order to know if more seasoning is needed.  I used knorr chicken, all purpose seasoning, mixed herbs and salt to season my stew. Feel free to use whatever seasoning you are used to.

Top Ten Favorite Movies 2013 Edition

Below are ten of my all time favorite movies. It's very difficult to put them in order but I will try my best here. Leave the list of your top 10 movies in the comment box.

 1. Men of Honor (2001).

This movie is based on a true life story and was recommended by my dad. This movie speaks volume and  I will definitely recommend it to my kids in the near future.

This military drama is based on the true story of Carl Brashear, who was the first African-American to serve as a diver in the United States Navy. Brashear (played by Cuba Gooding Jr.) was born to a poor farming family in the deep South, and joined the Navy in hopes of bettering himself. When Brashear applies for diving school, he first encounters Master Chief Billy Sunday (Robert De Niro), a gruff and tyrannical diving instructor who holds absolute sway over his charges. Sunday does little at first to encourage Brashear's ambitions, and the would-be diver discovers racism in the military is an ugly fact of life when his white comrades refuse to share barracks with him. But Brashear's courage and determination make an impression on Sunday, and the two men become allies as Brashear must fight prejudice, military bureaucracy, and even a crippling injury in order to realize his dreams. Originally announced under the title Navy Diver, Men of Honor also features Hal Holbrook, David Keith, Michael Rapaport, Charlize Theron, and Powers Boothe; Bill Cosby served as an executive producer for the project.

 2.Gladiator

This is a very emotional movie starring Russell Crowe as Maximus, a powerful Roman general. This movie shows how sometimes in life, you have to fight till the end, even with your last breath.

Maximus is a powerful Roman general, loved by the people and the aging Emperor, Marcus Aurelius. Before his death, the Emperor chooses Maximus to be his heir over his own son, Commodus, and a power struggle leaves Maximus and his family condemned to death. The powerful general is unable to save his family, and his loss of will allows him to get captured and put into the Gladiator games until he dies. The only desire that fuels him now is the chance to rise to the top so that he will be able to look into the eyes of the man who will feel his revenge.

Genre:History/Action
Director:Ridley Scott
Cast:Russell Crowe, Joaquin Phoenix, Connie Nielsen, Oliver Reed

3.Blood Diamond

Leonardo DiCaprio was exceptional in this action packed movie that's based on issues surrounding trade and smuggling of diamonds out of Africa.

A story following Archer, a man tortured by his roots. With a strong survival instinct, he has made himself a key player in the business of conflict diamonds. Political unrest is rampant in Sierra Leone as people fight tooth for tooth. Upon meeting Solomon, and the beautiful Maddy, Archer's life changes forever as he is given a chance to make peace with the war around him.

Genre:Thriller/Action
Director:Edward Zwick
Cast:Leonardo DiCaprio, Djimon Hounsou, Jennifer Connelly

4. Fast and Furious

Besides the third installment (Tokyo Drift) which was a bit disappointing, The 'Fast and Furious' film series combines humor with action which makes it stands out for me. Fast Five was amazing, Fast and Furious 6 is out of this world and I can't wait to watch the 7th installment in 2015 which will feature the transporter! (Jason Stathan).

Vin Diesel, Paul Walker and Dwayne Johnson lead the returning cast of all-stars as the global blockbuster franchise built on speed races to its next continent in Fast & Furious 6. Reuniting for their most high-stakes adventure yet, fan favorites Jordana Brewster, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Sung Kang, Gal Gadot, Chris "Ludacris" Bridges and Elsa Pataky are joined by badass series newcomers Luke Evans and Gina Carano.

Since Dom (Diesel) and Brian's (Walker) Rio heist toppled a kingpin's empire and left their crew with $100 million, our heroes have scattered across the globe. But their inability to return home and living forever on the lam have left their lives incomplete.

Meanwhile, Hobbs (Johnson) has been tracking an organization of lethally skilled mercenary drivers across 12 countries, whose mastermind (Evans) is aided by a ruthless second-in-command revealed to be the love Dom thought was dead, Letty (Rodriguez). The only way to stop the criminal outfit is to outmatch them at street level, so Hobbs asks Dom to assemble his elite team in London. Payment? Full pardons for all of them so they can return home and make their families whole again.

 5.Dark Knight Trilogy

This is arguably one of the best action movies of the decade. I have friends that will put this as their number one. Dark Knight Rises was a very good conclusion to this award winning trilogy.

Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy concludes with this Warner Brothers release that finds The Dark Knight pitted against Bane, an unstoppable foe possessed of tremendous physical and intellectual strength. Nearly a decade after taking the fall for Harvey Dent's death and disappearing into the darkness, a fugitive Batman (Christian Bale) watches from the shadows as the Dent Act keeps the streets of Gotham City free of crime. Meanwhile, an elusive cat burglar seizes the chance to strike, and a masked anarchist plots a devastating series of attacks designed to lure Bruce Wayne out of the shadows. Determined not to abandon the people who he once risked his life to protect, The Dark Knight emerges from his self-imposed exile ready to fight. But Bane (Tom Hardy) is ready, too, and once Batman is within his grasp, he will do everything in his power to break Gotham City's shadowy savior. Oscar-winner Michael Caine and Gary Oldman return in a sequel also starring Anne Hathaway, Marion Cotillard, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

6. Law Abiding Citizen

This might not be the best action movie of all time but it was a good watch. Very entertaining and will have you at the edge of your seat.

Jamie Foxx stars as an assistant DA who finds himself at the mercy of a spiteful vigilante (Gerard Butler) hell-bent on avenging the death of his wife and daughter, whose murderers are set free due to legal loopholes. F. Gary Gray (The Italian Job) directs from a script by Frank Darabont and Kurt Wimmer.

7. Public Enemies

Like most men, his weak spot is a beautiful woman. A very good movie and outstanding performance by Johnny Depp.

Starring Johnny Depp, Christian Bale, Marion Cotillard, Jason Clarke, Rory Cochran
In the action-thriller Public Enemies, acclaimed filmmaker Michael Mann directs Johnny Depp, Christian Bale and Academy Award® winner Marion Cotillard in the story of legendary Depression-era outlaw John Dillinger (Depp)—the charismatic bank robber whose lightning raids made him the number one target of J. Edgar Hoovers fledgling FBI and its top agent, Melvin Purvis (Bale), and a folk hero to much of the downtrodden public. No one could stop Dillinger and his gang. No jail could hold him. His charm and audacious jailbreaks endeared him to almost everyone—from his girlfriend Billie Frechette to an American public who had no sympathy for the banks that had plunged the country into the Depression. But while the adventures of Dillingers gang—later including the sociopathic Baby Face Nelson (Stephen Graham) and Alvin Karpis (Giovanni Ribisi)—thrilled many, Hoover (Billy Crudup) hit on the idea of exploiting the outlaws capture as a way to elevate his Bureau of Investigation into the national police force that became the FBI. He made Dillinger Americas first Public Enemy Number One and sent in Purvis, the dashing Clark Gable of the FBI. However, Dillinger and his gang outwitted and outgunned Purvis men in wild chases and shootouts. Only after importing a crew of Western ex-lawmen (newly baptized as agents) and orchestrating epic betrayals—from the infamous Lady in Red to the Chicago crime boss Frank Nitti—were Purvis, the FBI and their new crew of gunfighters able to close in on Dillinger.

 8. Sherlock Holmes

My type of movie! Action + Comedy? Yes please. Robert Downey Jr and Jude Law makes a good couple and they really delivered in the series of Sherlock Holmes, I'm currently reading the book (about 1500 pages) while I wait for the third installment.

In a dynamic new portrayal of Arthur Conan Doyles most famous characters, Sherlock Holmes sends Holmes and his stalwart partner Watson on their latest challenge. Revealing fighting skills as lethal as his legendary intellect, Holmes will battle as never before to bring down a new nemesis and unravel a deadly plot that could destroy the country.

Genre:Action and Adventure, Drama
Director:Guy Ritchie
Cast:Robert Downey Jr., Jude Law, Rachel McAdams, Mark Strong, Kelly Reilly

9. Iron Man Trilogy

Another movie starring Robert Downey Jr. This man is becoming one of my favorite Hollywood actors as he makes acting look very easy. On my list, Iron Man trilogy gets the same ranking as The Avengers. Besides Fast and Furious 6, Iron Man 3 is the best movie I've seen in 2013.

Marvel's "Iron Man 3" pits brash-but-brilliant industrialist Tony Stark/Iron Man against an enemy whose reach knows no bounds. When Stark finds his personal world destroyed at his enemy's hands, he embarks on a harrowing quest to find those responsible. This journey, at every turn, will test his mettle. With his back against the wall, Stark is left to survive by his own devices, relying on his ingenuity and instincts to protect those closest to him. As he fights his way back, Stark discovers the answer to the question that has secretly haunted him: does the man make the suit or does the suit make the man?

10. The Hangover Trilogy

This is a movie that will have you laughing out loud every minute in the cinema and make you ask yourself questions like "Does what happen in Vegas really stay in Vegas"? The characters in this movie (wolf pack) are something else. They never learn and get stupid by the minute. This is a good piece of comedy and I can't wait to watch the conclusion to this trilogy next week.

This time, there's no wedding. No bachelor party. What could go wrong, right? But when the Wolfpack hits the road, all bets are off.

Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms, Justin Bartha, Zach Galifianakis, Ken Jeong and directed by Todd Phillips

Sailors

I'm in love with nature and adventures, Enjoy the poem below (inspired by real life events)  and leave some feedback. ~Poetic_kelz

We were sailors driven by the wind,
Unseen yet very powerful.
With our compass, we traveled the four corners of the earth,
North, South, East and West.
We got lost so many times,
But we always got back on track.
We experienced the beauty of nature,
its ugly side too.
We conquered the 7 seas,
And overcame unforeseen threats.
We sailed through strong tides,
In the deepest waters.
We traded in Africa, Asia and America,
And dealt with pirates in the Caribbean.
We survived deadly storms,
Some of which could have taken us to the world beyond.
We were once sailors,
We rode on the 'wings' of the wind.

The Man in The Mirror

The world is sinking,
People are drowning.
Our leaders are greedy,
They are too busy with the economy.
I wish I could make a change,
I wish I can take the pain away.
The pain of those lonely children,
Whose tears can no longer flow.
The loneliness of those men and women,
Who have made the roadside their home.
There is only one person that can understand how I feel,
He alone can feel this pain,
He is the man in the mirror.

When I laugh, he laughs;
When I cry, he cries.
The last time I saw the man in the mirror,
He didn't look too pleased.
I told him about the world,
He told me to be the change I want to see.
The last time I fought the man in the mirror,
It was over my broken heart that he couldn't fix,
And his inability to make all the change I want to see.

The EX-Factor

Relationship(EXplained)

I'm not a psychologist, neither am I a relationship expert. I'm just a gentleman that observe things going on around me and learn tangible lessons. Afterall "Life is a teacher and the more we live, the more we learn" right?

The way relationships (the 'exclusive' boyfriend/girlfriend type) are set up these days makes it difficult for a lot of people to move on after a breakup, so for all those pointing fingers at that boy / girl that's always running back to their ex, beware! Simply because it can happen to anyone. I won't just state my opinions, I will EXplain them as much as I can and hopefully, I will be reaching out to a confused person somewhere in the world. Below are some of my opinions from life experience and observing other people.

  • You've built your world around them:

It's so easy to get lost in your own little world and lose track of what's going on around you when you get into a relationship. A lot of young people these days make someone their world (nothing wrong with that by the way) and forget about other important things and people. They can't even keep friends because they are too busy putting all their energy on one person and by so doing get too dependent. When such people break up, they will find themselves going back to that ex because that's the only choice most of them have.
My advice is keeping a wide friendship circle (more friends more trouble so be careful who you call your friend). Just because you are in a relationship doesn't mean you shouldn't interact with other people. Having other people to talk to and hang out with will even help your relationship as you won't always be on your partner's case which might get annoying sometimes. A wide friendship circle will always give you something interesting to do or talk about and prevent you from getting too dependent. If you won't put all your eggs in one basket, I don't see why you should put your whole life into an individual's hand.

  • It's not magic, you just don't get over someone in a blink of an eye:

A lot of people out there believe they can get over someone in a minute, don't let Beyoncé deceive you ("I can have another you in a minute"). It's not always easy to forget about someone you once shared everything and did a lot of things with especially if the relationship was long term. Time is needed to get over someone. If you rush into something with someone else, it’s most likely that you will be back knocking on your ex's door because you might realise they are not that bad after all.

  • The devil I know is better than the angel I don't know:

That phrase is a killer when it comes to relationships. It's okay to think like that if things are going well and you are just going through a tough phase. When things start to go really bad, I guess you can use the analogy that follows. When you have a car that's no longer serving its purpose, it must give way to a better one if you really have places to go to. If you put your all in a relationship and it's not going anywhere, you shouldn't just stay in it thinking you can't do better. Except if you are always messing up and about, the chances are if you give yourself time to heal and make yourself better after a breakup, you will meet someone that will treat you better than that your ex who didn't value you for one reason or the other. Again, if you rush into another relationship after a break up, then you might be back at your ex's door trying to justify that the devil you know is better than the angel you don't know.

  • Avoiding them isn't always the best solution, face your fears.

This point is self-explanatory, so I won't bore you with details. If your mind is set at making someone your enemy just because things didn't work out instead of just letting life go on, you will find yourself building cases in your head on why you should dislike them or perhaps avoid them. Indirectly you will be constantly thinking about them and even put yourself in a more difficult position.

There are a lot of points to cover, but I don't want to make this too long. Ask questions in the comment box and share your thoughts on this topic be it from personal experience or observations. I will be looking forward to read from you guys and hopefully see things in a new light.

Happy Easter (The Word)

“He was present when the foundation of the world was laid.
He is the author and finisher of our soul.
He is ‘the word’ that was, that is and that will be.
For God so love the world that he sent his only begotten son
‘The word’,
That whosoever believes in him ‘the word’ will not perish but have eternal life.
‘The word’ shines in darkness and when God spoke ‘the word’,
Let there be light; there was light and darkness comprehended it not.
In the beginning was
‘The word’
And ‘the word’ was with God,
And ‘the word’ was GOD (John 1:1).
The word became flesh and dwelt amongst us
To feel what we feel,
See what we see,
Do all that we do except sin because ‘the word’ was without blemish.
There was a need for God and men to reconcile, so there was no other way than the way of ‘the word’ that was when God gave man the breath of life.
‘The word’ was the way, the only way!
‘The word’ became the lamb for the forgiveness of our sins. Even without sin, He took our place and died so that you and I may live.
Forty stripes he took for our healing,
He carried the cross to wipe away our shame, guilt and sin. On the way to Calvary, even in pain he prayed for you and me.
3 nails and a spear in his body, he took for us.
The prince of peace with a shinning crown wore a crown of thorns for our forgiveness.
If only they knew he was the word that was, that is and that would be, they wouldn't have crucified JESUS.
On the cross, he paid the price for the forgiveness of our sins.
1 life, he gave for all and he said it is finished!
On the third day he rose again having paid for our sins with his own dear life.

The Undesired Effect of Social Networking

It's funny how things and time change. Social Network has changed the way people relate with each other. While apps like Skype has managed to bridge the gap (connecting people that are hundreds, perhaps thousands of miles apart), people use other social network site/apps as an excuse.. I am guilty as well and I am going to work on improving my means of communication with family and friends. Nothing can replace a good visit and a nice phone call just to encourage someone. Let someone out there know you appreciate them today. Use social network as a tool for effective communication, not a reason to disconnect yourself from those you love and care about.
“They were happy people with no cars,
But they cared enough to walk long distance in search of each other.
Love was the fuel that sustained them.
No phones or e-mail to contact each other,
But they always had each other on mind.
That was the best way they could keep up to date.”

Nigeria (Past, Present and the Future)

Read the poem and watch the video to learn about Nigeria. One people, one nation forever united by a shared struggle, common heritage and a bright future

Poem: Happy People 2

"Thinking about yesterday and remembering how good things used to be compared to what it is now makes me ask myself what really went wrong.
Although they suffer and smile, the smiling was only a reminder of the good past. They were happy people who knew no difference between themselves.
They lived happily as one blood and a family, but one day things changed. Their joy became sorrow and the price for freedom was unbearable.
Children lost their parents, and husbands didn't get to say farewell to their wives. The whole family got torn apart and the situation of things hurts more than thorns in the flesh.
The happy people were enslaved, exploited and battered. They worked and didn't get paid, planted but didn't reap and spent most of their times bound in chains.
They lived in sorrow night and day without seizing to struggle and hope for better days ahead.
Things are better now because of the struggle of the brave ones that the strengths of the chains in which they were bound couldn't hold down.
The unbreakable people that supported the fight for freedom gave us the opportunity to proclaim our liberty today,
And remember the past a a stepping stone to the future”

Closing remarks:

"In the course of our rich history,
We have seen the heights of greatness and the depth of cruelty.
We have seen the birth of new civilisations and the death of ancient empires.
This is the history of a nation that was beaten but never broken, subdued but never conquered.
Today, we are many, yet we are one people, one nation forever united by a shared struggle, common heritage and a bright future
We are NIGERIANS.

Heartbeat

Place your hand on my chest to feel my heartbeat,
Feel it fade away like the waves of the ocean.
Can you feel the destabilisation caused by your lack of emotions?
True love used to live here, but now it's all gone.
My heart used to be one filled with love,
You shattered it into a million pieces, leaving just hurtful memories.
Put your hands on my chest, can you feel a thing?
I've tried so hard, but I feel nothing!
I'm a new person, and this heart no longer beats for you.

ABOUT THE POEM

This poem puts the reader in a place of someone with a broken heart (healed)
I had to think like a lady to write this poem. The poem started from someone meaning the world to him/her and ended when he/she realised they can do better. Enjoy and leave your comments below.

Nigeria Vs Ivory Coast - Super Sunday

The Circus is a second home to Elephants, but the Super Eagles of Nigeria did not hesitate to send the Ivorian 'Elephants' out of the African Cup of Nations Circus.
Although the super eagles were labelled as underdogs and referred to as 'Super Chickens' by Emmanuel Eboue, they stole the show with the first goal of the match by Emmanuel Emenike went straight past the Ivorian keeper like a lightning strike at 43 minutes. Drogba cheated his way to get a free kick which allowed Tiote to score an equaliser (his first international goal) 5 minutes into the second half. It was hard to break the deadlock, but a super strike by Sunday Mba at the 78th minute turned the match around and sealed the Super Eagle's victory. The performance and resistance showed by the proud Nigerian Super Eagles made the encounter a 'Super Sunday' match. The competition favourite failed to deliver yet again as they crashed out of the competition at the quarter final stage, coming short of their performance last year when they reached the final and only lost to the current champion, Zambia by penalty shootout.
